THE MURAL PAINTINGS
THE MURALS WERE COMMISSIONED IN 2015 TO DECORATE THE SHRINE’S MAIN SHRINE. THE HAND-PAINTED MURALS TELL THE STORY OF BUDDHA’S LIFE, AND WERE PAINTED OVER THREE YEARS BY TWO TALENTED THAI ARTISTS.
”The murals at Ananda Temple are divided into two main parts: the picture telling the story of the Buddha’s life on the top and the picture of the Buddha’s dharma below. As for the Buddha’s history, I still draw in the traditional Thai painting style. but improving the composition of the picture to make the story easier to understand in the lower part and the image behind the principal Buddha image There are many parts where I have used images of people in today’s life to convey meaning instead of ancient forms. An example of a picture behind the Lord Buddha in the human world I have drawn the landmarks and lifestyle of people in Singapore that I see in the pictures. It captures my impression of being here once and I think it will impress the Singaporean audience as well.“- Artist
